Bryan Mattias

IKD Vice President and Quebec Regional Director, 8th Dan

Shihan Bryan Mattias, 65 years old.

I began training in karate-do in October 1974 at the age of 14 under Sensei Jean Moreau in Laval, Quebec, with the intention of learning self-defence to protect my little sisters. When Sensei Moreau closed the dojo in 1978, I took over and began teaching karate-do in 1979 at Collège Montmorency in Laval, where I continue to teach to this day.

I earned my Shodan in 1981 after three unsuccessful attempts. I later received my 5th Dan (JKA), 6th Dan (ISKF), and 7th and 8th Dan (IKD).

I was a member of the Quebec provincial competition team from 1980 to 2002 and represented Canada as a member of the Canadian Kumite Team at the 1996 World Cup.

Over the years, I have trained with many renowned Japanese Shotokan masters, as well as several distinguished non-Japanese masters. I have also trained in various other martial arts disciplines. I had the honor of being a student of Master Yaguchi and Master Woon A Tai.

Currently, I serve as Vice President of the IKD and Regional Director for Quebec.
