David Pyke

IKD Director, New Brunswick, 8th Dan

Shihan David Pyke is the Chief Instructor of the Amherst Shotokan Karate Academy and the Maritime IKD. He began training in 1980 at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick.

In 1984, Sensei David received his Shodan from Master Masahiko Tanaka.

In 2000, he was appointed Chief Instructor and Director of the New Brunswick Provincial organization, which he successfully redeveloped into the thriving Maritime region.

Sensei David’s technical skill has been demonstrated many times at provincial and national events. He was a member of the 1992 National Team that competed at the Shoto World Cup in Tokyo, Japan, and again at the 1994 tournament held in Philadelphia, where he advanced to the semi-finals in kata.

As an international-level judge, Sensei David has served as a tournament official at numerous national and international championships.

In 2011, he tested for and was promoted to Shichidan (7th Degree Black Belt) and received his International Instructor and Examiner qualifications. He was also appointed to the Senate of the newly formed International Karate Daigaku.

In 2017, he tested for and was promoted to Hachidan (8th-degree black belt).
