No, we are not offering transportation to camp, however there are multiple options to get there. We recommend the following:
Carpooling or Car Rental. There are multiple car rental agencies available at Pearson International Airport and across the GTA.
Public Transit: Traveling from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to YMCA Camp Wanakita in Haliburton, Ontario, involves a combination of public transportation options, as there isn’t a direct bus service connecting the two locations. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you plan your journey:
A. From Pearson Airport to Toronto Transit Hubs:
Begin by taking a GO Transit bus from Pearson Airport’s Terminal 1 to either Yorkdale Bus Terminal or the Vaughan Highway 407 Transit Terminal. GO Transit operates regular services connecting the airport to these major transit hubs.
B. Connecting to Ontario Northland Services:
At either Yorkdale or Vaughan Highway 407 terminals, you can connect to Ontario Northland’s motor coach services. Ontario Northland provides transportation to various destinations in Ontario.
C. Traveling to Haliburton:
Ontario Northland offers routes that service the Haliburton area. It’s advisable to check their current schedules and book tickets in advance to ensure availability and confirm departure times.
D. Final Leg to Camp Wanakita:
Upon arriving in Haliburton, Camp Wanakita is approximately a 15-minute drive away. There is a daily bus service that arrives and departs from Haliburton, which is close to the camp, or taxi services available.
E. Additional Considerations:
• Alternative Transportation: If the bus schedules do not align with your arrival times, consider arranging a taxi or ride-sharing service for the final segment from Haliburton to Camp Wanakita.
• Advance Planning: Public transportation options in rural areas can be limited, so it’s crucial to plan your trip in advance, verify schedules, and make necessary reservations ahead of time.
By following this combination of GO Transit and Ontario Northland services, you can effectively travel from Toronto Pearson Airport to Camp Wanakita, keeping in mind the need for a short additional transfer from Haliburton to the camp.
